The Disabled Drivers Association are delighted to announce their involvement in the DiTL EU Project (Disabled People Inclusion and Training in Transport and Logistics) which aims to enhance equality and eliminate discrimination for people with disabilities in the transport and logistics sectors by improving access to training and employment. This 36-month initiative aims to improve access to training and employment for people with disabilities in the transport and logistics sector, where they remain underrepresented.

Key Areas of Focus

  1. Unequal Access to Vocational Education and Training

Research indicates significant barriers for people with disabilities in accessing vocational education:

  • Specialized vocational schools may not provide adequate pathways to integrate with conventional education.
  • Training organizations, especially in driving and warehousing, lack accessible facilities and adaptive resources.

  1. Need for Enhanced Regulation and Inclusive Provisions in Europe
  • European and international frameworks (e.g., UNCRPD and EU Directive 2000/78/EC) support the rights of people with disabilities in vocational training.
  • However, a lack of unified standards across EU countries leads to varying levels of implementation, as each Member State follows its own guidelines.

  1. Raising Awareness Among Career and Training Stakeholders
  • There's a crucial need for awareness among career guidance professionals, trainers, and companies
  • Training providers require better resources and guidance to support individuals with disabilities.
  • Staff often lack the necessary training to adequately assist and include people with disabilities in educational and employment environments.
  • Technical and organizational measures for inclusion are often missing or insufficiently applied.
